Isaiah 44. 6. Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the Lord of hosts; I AM the first,
and I AM the last; and beside me there is no GOD.

AΩ Luke 24. 25.
Then He said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that
the prophets have spoken: 26. Ought not
Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets,
He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
On the road to Emmaus
It had been three days
since the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth in Jerusalem. While walking to
Emmaus two of Jesus' discouraged followers
discussed his words, deeds, and death on the cross.
Suddenly a Stranger
appeared to them and listened to their sad story- how Jesus died, and how His
body was gone.
"We trusted that He
would have been the Redeemer of Israel, but He has been dead three days
already, and the "women said they saw angels who said He was alive."
Their lack of faith was obvious to Jesus, the Stranger, and He obviously
rebuked them saying they should have known the Messiah would have suffered
these things and then return to His Glory.
Then, "He expounded
unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself."
What were those
references?
The purpose of this book
is to study the many references to Jesus
in the Old Testament Prophets. They will be annotated with the Alpha-Omega sign: AΩ
Each reference to the
Lord of Hosts, JHWH of Armies, is
annotated with the Alpha-Omega sign AΩ to draw our attention to the Lord of
Lords and King of Kings, Jesus Christ,
whom the prophet Zechariah in particular identified as the Lord of Hosts,[1] the Lord
their God[2], the One
who stretched out the Heavens[3]. He was
the Smitten one, was sold for thirty pieces of silver, rode into Jerusalem on a
donkey one day[4],
the Governor[5]
and God[6] of
Israel, sold for thirty pieces of silver[7], pierced[8], and the
coming King[9]-
The
Day of the LORD in Obadiah
The Prophet Obadiah was
the first to speak of the Day of the Lord . Obadiah was not only referring to a
day in his lifetime when Edom would be humiliated, but a day in the then
distant future when the Messiah, the Lord God, (Hebrew " Adonai JHWH", the Lord God, would come to earth. Around 888[10] years
passed and Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Almost twenty centuries have passed
since Jesus ascended into Heaven..
Mark 13, Luke 21 and
Matthew 24 have many details of the Day of the Lord no one knew before. You might want to read
those in the last chapter of this book, "The Signs of the Times".
AΩ Jesus said in Luke 21. 28. And when these things begin to come to pass,
then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh ."

AΩ The Lord will bring Edom down
Obadiah 1.1
T |
he vision of Obadiah.
Thus saith the Lord (Adonai) God[11]
concerning Edom; We have heard a rumor from the Lord , and an ambassador is sent among the
heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
2.
Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly
despised.
· The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that
dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his
heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4. Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and
though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith
the Lord .
5. If
thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they
not have stolen till they had enough? if the grape gatherers came to thee,
would they not leave some grapes?
6. How
are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!
· All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even
to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and
prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee:
there is none understanding in him.
8.
Shall I not in that day, saith the Lord , even destroy the wise men out
of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
9. And
thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the
mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
God was angry with Edom because they did not render
aid to Israel
· For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall
cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
11. In the day that thou stoodest on the other
side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and
foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast
as one of them.
12. But thou shouldest not have looked on the day
of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou
have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction;
neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.
13.
Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of
their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the
day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of
their calamity;
14.
Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of
his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that
did remain in the day of distress.
AΩ 15. For the
day of the Lord [13]
is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee:
thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
16. For
as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink
continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall
be as though they had not been.
AΩ 17.
· But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there
shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
18. And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and
the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall
kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the
house of Esau; for the Lord hath spoken
it.
19. And
they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the
Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of
Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
AΩ 20.
· And the captivity of this host of the children of
Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the
captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the
south.
AΩ 21.
· And saviours[14] shall
come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the
Lord (JHWH'S).

Twenty-three years after
the prophet Obadiah was sent to Edom, the prophet Jonah was sent to Nineveh
with the short, simple sermon- " Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be
overthrown."
The miracle was they
repented. We are not promised forty days.
Repent!

self-righteousness and sin to the Savior, Messiah, and Coming King of Kings.

AΩ Matthew 12. 39.
But He answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation
seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of
the prophet Jonas:
40. For
as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son
of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41. The
men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn
it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater
than Jonas is here.

ow the Word[24] of the
Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai,
saying,
2. Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and
cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
The
Prophet Flees, God Meets Him in a Storm
3. But
Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord [25], and
went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare
thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence
of the Lord .
AΩ 4. But the
Lord [26] sent
out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so
that the ship was like to be broken.
5. Then the mariners were afraid, and cried
every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the
sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship;
and he lay, and was fast asleep.
6. So
the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper?
arise, call upon thy God (elohim) , if so be that GOD (Elohim) will think upon
us, that we perish not.
7. And
they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know
for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon
Jonah.
8. Then
said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon
us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? What is thy country? and
of what people art thou?
AΩ 9. And he said
unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear (JHWH Elohim) the Lord , the GOD (Elohim)
of Heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.[27]
10.
Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou
done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord ,
because he had told them.
11.
Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be
calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.
12. And
he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea
be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.
13.
Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could
not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
14.
Wherefore they cried unto the Lord , and said, We beseech thee, O Lord ,
we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us
innocent blood: for thou, O Lord , hast done as it pleased thee.
15. So
they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from
her raging.
16. Then
the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and
offered a sacrifice unto the Lord , and made vows.
17. AΩ
Now the Lord had prepared a great fish
to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish[28] three
days and three nights.
Jonah 2
Romans 10.13 Whosoever
shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.
Jonah 2 1. Then Jonah prayed unto (JHWH Elohim) the Lord his GOD (Elohim) out of the fish's belly,
2. And
said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord , and he heard me; out
of the belly of Hell[29] cried
I, and thou heardest my voice.
3. For
thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods
compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
4. Then
I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy
temple.
5. The
waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about,
the weeds were wrapped about my head.
6. I
went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me
for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my GOD (Elohim).[30]
7. When
my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord : and my prayer came in unto
thee, into thine holy temple.
8. They
that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
The
Prayer of Faith Saved Jonah
AΩ
9. But I will sacrifice unto thee with
the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of
the Lord .[31]
10. And
the Lord spake unto the fish, and it
vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
Jonah 3
1. And
the Word of the Lord came unto Jonah the
second time, saying,
"In
forty days Ninevah would be destroyed"
The Command- Go and
Preach What God Tells You
Jonah 3.2. Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and
preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
3. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh,
according to the Word of the Lord . Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of
three days' journey.
The Message
4. And Jonah began to enter into the city a
day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be
overthrown.
Miraculous Results
5. So
the people of Nineveh believed GOD (Elohim), and proclaimed a fast, and put on
sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6. For
word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid
his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7. And
he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of
the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock,
taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8. But
let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto GOD
(Elohim): yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence
that is in their hands.
9. Who
can tell if GOD (Elohim) will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce
anger, that we perish not?
10. And
GOD (Elohim) saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and GOD
(Elohim) repented of the evil, that He had said that he would do unto them; and
He did it not.
Does
God Changes His Mind? No.
He has one plan for
mankind- that they all be saved.
God is not willing that
any should perish but that all should come to repentance.[32]
If we refuse to repent
and believe in the Son of God, we have missed God's One and only Way to Heaven,
Jesus.[33]
Whosoever shall call upon
the Name of the Lord shall be saved[34], but if
one refuses to believe and call on Him, he must brush past the outstretched
arms of Jesus and go to a lake of fire prepared for the devil and his angels.[35]
Jonah Gets Mad at God
1. But
it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
2. And
he prayed unto the Lord , and said, I pray thee, O Lord , was not this my
saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish:
for I knew that thou art a gracious GOD (Elohim), and merciful, slow to anger,
and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
3.
Therefore now, O Lord , take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is
better for me to die than to live.
4. Then
said the Lord , Doest thou well to be angry?
5. So
Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there
made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would
become of the city.
6. And
the Lord GOD (Elohim) prepared a gourd,
and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to
deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.
7. But
GOD (Elohim) prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote
the gourd that it withered.
8. And
it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that GOD (Elohim) prepared a vehement
east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished
in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
9. And GOD (Elohim) said to Jonah, Doest thou
well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto
death.
10.
Then said the Lord , Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou
hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and
perished in a night:
11. And
should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore
thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left
hand; and also much cattle?
John
3. 16. For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting life.
17. For
God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved.
Question:
Do you think Jonah fled from the call because of he was afraid to preach or
because he was sure Nineveh would be destroyed anyway?
Did he think there was no hope for Nineveh? Do
we think of some people or nations as hopeless? Consider John 3.16.
Approximately what year was Jonah written?
Where was Jonah sent?
· What was his message?
· What sign did Jesus say would be given to "this generation"?
· What prophet clearly identified Jesus as "The LORD of hosts?" Lord of hosts is the Name YAHWEH or Jehovah!
· The mariners knew God as whom? _________ Elohim is the Triune Name of God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
· Jonah said He feared the LORD GOD (Yahweh Elohim) who did what?
Question: Do you think Jonah fled from the call because of he was afraid to preach or because he was sure Nineveh would be destroyed anyway?
Did he think there was no hope for Nineveh? Do we think of some people or nations as hopeless? Consider John 3.16.
Acts
2.16. But this is that which was spoken
by the prophet Joel;
AΩ 17. And it shall come to pass in the last days,
saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old
men shall dream dreams:
18. And
on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my
Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
AΩ 19. And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and
signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20. The
sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great
and notable day of the Lord (kurious) come:
21. And
it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD
(kurious) shall be saved.

The Prophet Joel has a
complete depiction of the Day of the Lord
Jesus as follows:
The Captivity of Israel.
Although the Dispersion
is not mentioned, the fact that sacrifices and feasts cease is.
The captivity of Israel
will culminate in a time of darkness and
gloominess: a day when the land would be like the garden of Eden before them
and like a desolate wilderness behind them. The Apostle Peter's description of
the day of the Lord would remind us of
a nuclear holocaust.
Spectacular signs precede
the Lord 's coming according to Joel:
Earthquakes, the heavens
tremble, the sun and moon are darkened, and stars withdraw their shining.
The Lord 's voice
"roaring out of Zion"
Revelation 1 10. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and
heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
11. Saying, I am Alpha and Omega,
the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book,.
Blessings for the
Redeemed of the Lord-
Israel will be blessed of
the Lord. The Northern Army (although they are not named here they are named
elsewhere, Gog and Magog) will be defeated.
It will be the time of
the latter rains. This prophecy is
also mentioned in Zechariah, and James 5.
The Lord's great army
Revelation 19. 13. And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in
blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14. And the armies which were in
heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and
clean. 15. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword,
that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of
iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty
God. 16.
And He hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF
KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
His People Will Not Be
Ashamed
First, note that He will
be ashamed of some who do not believe in Him nor confess Him, Mark 8. 38. Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me
and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the
Son of man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy
angels.
Secondly, those who do
believe and confess Him will not be ashamed anymore. Paul quotes Psalm 118 in
Romans 9.33. As it is written, Behold, I
lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on
him shall not be ashamed. The Psalmist continued 23.
This is the Lord's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. 24.
This is the day which the Lord
hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
God will dwell in their
midst!
God Himself dwelled among
them, when Jesus of Nazareth dwelled among them. He was Immanuel, God with us.
God Himself will dwell
with them when the Lord comes back.
Revelation 21. Behold,
the tabernacle of God[45] is with
men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself
shall be with them, and be their God.
4. And God shall wipe away all
tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor
crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed
away.
The Holy Spirit will be
poured out upon them
According to Acts this
happened in the Upper Room when they prophesied or preached in other languages.
This wonderful prophecy from 800 B. C. was fulfilled that day and is repeated
each time we empty ourselves of sin and self and ask God to fill us with the
Holy Spirit.. Then, we proclaim Jesus crucified, risen and coming again.
Glory is not to be in one
who speaks in a foreign language, nor even in the Holy Spirit who glorifies
Jesus, but in the Lamb of God.
The Valley of Armageddon
or Jehoshaphat
After the Great
Tribulation, Israel will be surrounded by its enemies. Christ will come with
His saints, and will with the Word of His mouth destroy the enemies[46], Gog
and Magog, and others numbering over one hundred million . Blood will be deep
as horse's bridles in the Valley of Jehoshaphat or Har (Hill) Mageddon for
about two hundred miles.
Zionism- the Regathering
of Israel Joel 3.7
With the formation of the
Nation of Israel in 1948, Israel has been regathering from all nations. That is
not the final regathering however. When Jesus comes to separate the sheep from
the goats, He will gather His people together, the saved from every tribe and
nation.
The Harvest Is Ripe
Joel 3.13
Perhaps Jesus was
referring to this prophecy when He said,
Matthew 13.38 but the tares are the children of the wicked
one; 39. The enemy that sowed them is
the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the
angels. 40. As therefore the tares are gathered and
burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41.
The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of
his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42.
And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and
gnashing of teeth. 43. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the
sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
And- Luke 2. 2. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest
truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth
labourers into his harvest.
And- Joel 3. 14. Multitudes, multitudes in the
valley of decision: for the day of the Lord
is near in the valley of decision.
Joel 3.17
Zechariah says even the
bells of the horses will say "Holiness unto the Lord ." John the
Revelator writes "I saw the Holy City New Jerusalem coming down from God
out of Heaven."[47]
A fountain shall come from the House of the Lord .
Zechariah, Daniel, and
Revelation have beautiful descriptions of the River of Life coming out of the
Throne of God flowing as far as Egypt.
Judah will dwell forever

from the ground for instance). The Lord
will dwell in Jerusalem.

he Word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
2. Hear
this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been
in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
3. Tell
ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their
children another generation.
4. That
which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust
hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath
the caterpiller [49]eaten.
5.
Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine,
because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
6. For
a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are
the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
7. He
hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare,
and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
8.
Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9. The
meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the Lord ;
the priests, the Lord 'S ministers, mourn.
10. The
field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is
dried up, the oil languisheth.
11. Be
ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the
barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
12. The
vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm
tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered:
because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
13.
Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the
altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my GOD (Elohim): for
the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your
GOD (Elohim).
14. Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly,
gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the
Lord your GOD (Elohim), and cry unto the
Lord ,

The Day of the
LORD
in Obadiah............................. 121
AΩ 15. Alas for
the day! for the day of the Lord [50] is at
hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty[51] shall
it come.
16. Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea,
joy and gladness from the house of our GOD (Elohim)?
17. The
seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are
broken down; for the corn is withered.
18. How
do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no
pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
19. O Lord , to thee will I cry: for the fire
hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the
trees of the field.
20. The
beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up,
and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
Matthew 24. 42.
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43. But
know this, that if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief
would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be
broken up.
44.
Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son
of man cometh.
1 Corinthians 15. 52.
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the
trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall
be changed.
AΩ Joel 2.1. Blow
ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the
inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
2. A
day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as
the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath
not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years
of many generations.
3. A
fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the
garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and
nothing shall escape them.
4. The appearance of them is as the appearance
of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
5. Like
the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise
of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle
array.
6.
Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall
gather blackness.
7. They
shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they
shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
8.
Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path:
and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.
9. They
shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall
climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.
AΩ 10. The earth
shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall
be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
AΩ 11. And the
Lord shall utter his voice before his
army: for his camp is very great: for He is strong that executeth his word: for
the day of the Lord is great and very
terrible; and who can abide it?
AΩ 12. Therefore also now, saith the Lord , turn ye
even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with
mourning:
AΩ
13. And rend your heart, and not your
garments, and turn unto the Lord your
GOD (Elohim): for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great
kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
14. Who
knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a
meat offering and a drink offering unto the Lord your GOD (Elohim)?
15.
Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:
16.
Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders,
gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go
forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
17. Let
the priests, the ministers of the Lord , weep between the porch and the altar,
and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord , and give not thine heritage to
reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say
among the people, Where is their GOD (Elohim)?
AΩ 18. Then will
the Lord be jealous for his land, and
pity his people.
AΩ 19. Yea, the
Lord will answer and say unto his
people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be
satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:
AΩ 20. But I will
remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land
barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part
toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savor shall
come up, because he hath done great things.
AΩ 21. Fear not,
O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord
will do great things.
22. Be
not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do
spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield
their strength.
AΩ 23. Be glad
then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your GOD (Elohim): for he hath given you the
former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the
former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
24. And
the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and
oil.
AΩ 25. And I will
restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the
caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
AΩ 26. And ye
shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the Name of the Lord your GOD (Elohim), that hath dealt wondrously
with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
AΩ 27. And ye
shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your GOD (Elohim), and none else: and my
people shall never be ashamed.
AΩ 28. And it
shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all
flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall
dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
AΩ 29. And also
upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my
Spirit.
AΩ 30. And I will
show wonders
in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of
smoke.
AΩ 31. The
sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before
the great and the terrible day of the Lord
come.
AΩ
32. And it shall come to pass, that
whosoever shall call on the Name of the Lord
(JHWH, Gk. kurious) shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and
in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord
hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.
AΩ 1. For,
behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity
of Judah and Jerusalem,
AΩ 2. I will also
gather all nations[52], and
will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them
there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among
the nations, and parted my land.[53]
3. And
they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold
a girl for wine, that they might drink.
4. Yea,
and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of
Palestine? will ye render me a recompence? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and
speedily will I return your recompence upon your own head;
5.
Because ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your
temples my goodly pleasant things: 6. The children also of Judah and the children
of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the Grecians, that ye might remove them far from
their border.
AΩ 7. Behold, I
will raise them out of the place whither ye have sold them, and will return
your recompence upon your own head:
8. And
I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of
Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: for the
Lord hath spoken it.
AΩ 9. Proclaim ye
this among the Gentiles; prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men
of war draw near; let them come up:
AΩ 10. Beat your plowshares
into swords and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
AΩ 11. Assemble
yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round
about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Lord .
AΩ 12. Let the
heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I
sit to judge all the heathen round about.
AΩ 13. Put ye in
the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full,
the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.
AΩ 14.
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the
Lord is near in the valley of decision.
AΩ 15. The sun
and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
AΩ 16. The
Lord also shall roar out of Zion[54], and utter
his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the
Lord will be the hope of his people, and
the strength of the children of Israel.
AΩ 17. So shall
ye know that I AM the Lord your GOD
(Elohim) dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and
there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
AΩ 18. And it
shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine,
and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with
waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the Lord , and shall
water the valley of Shittim.
19.
Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness,
for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent
blood in their land.
AΩ
20. But Judah shall dwell for ever, and
Jerusalem from generation to generation.
The LORD will dwell in Zion
AΩ 21. For I will
cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the Lord dwelleth in Zion.
John 1. 10. He
was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11. He
came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12. But
as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even
to them that believe on his Name:
Revelation 21. 3.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle
of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people,
and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4. And
God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more
death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for
the former things are passed away.

Historical Introduction
to the Book of Amos
The Book of Amos is a
prophetic book of the Hebrew Bible, one of the Twelve Minor Prophets. Amos, an
older contemporary of Hosea and Isaiah, was active c. 750 BC during the reign
of Jeroboam II,[1] (786–746 BC) making the Book of Amos the first biblical
prophetic book written. Amos lived in the kingdom of Judah but preached in the
northern kingdom of Israel. His major themes of social justice, God's
omnipotence, and divine judgment became staples of prophecy. [55]
MAJOR PROPHECIES FROM A
MINOR[56] PROPHET
Our objective in this
study is to find comparisons of the Lord of hosts in Amos to the Lord Jesus
Christ, Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
First Comparison- Jesus
comes back to rule and reign
1) Amos 1.2 “The Lord
will roar from Zion” thus signifies the
time when Jesus returns to fight for Israel against ALL nations gathered
against the. This will be the Second Coming at the end of the Millennial reign.
Compare this to Jude 1. 14. And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam,
prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his
saints, 15. To execute judgment upon all…Note: He comes
with His saints not to gather His saints. He has already gathered them or
caught them up at the Rapture)…. and
Revelation 10. 3. And cried
with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven
thunders uttered their voices….compare this to-
Isaiah -- Cross Ref. for
Revelation 10:3
Isaiah 31:4 For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like
as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of
shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice,
nor abase himself for the noise of them:
So shall the Lord of
hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.
Finally, the best of all
references to Jesus coming back to destroy nations against Israel, God, and His
Christ:
Revelation 19. 13. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in
blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14. And
the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine
linen, white and clean.
15. And
out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations:
and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the
fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16. And
he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD
OF LORDS.
HE IS THE LORD OF HOSTS
in Amos!
Second comparison- Jesus
the Burden bearer
2) Amos 2.13 I am pressed
under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves. [57] Can you
see Jesus in the Garden crushed with sorrows for the burden of our sins?
Amos 2.14. AΩ 14.
Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall
not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself.
The Lord Jesus Himself will destroy our enemies with
the sword of His mouth in the Valley of Armageddon. We will be there on white
horses, but He will do all the fighting.[58]
AΩ
Amos 4.12. Therefore thus will I do unto
thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy GOD
(Elohim), O Israel.
AΩ Amos 4.13.
For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and
declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and
treadeth upon the high places of the earth, the Lord , The GOD (Elohim) of
hosts, is his name. John 1.
Israel, prepare to meet
your Creator and God. He is returning soon, perhaps today! John 12 40. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of
man cometh at an hour when ye think not.. Jesus knew their thoughts. Matthew
12.25
Amos 5. AΩ 8.
Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, sun, moon and stars?
In Revelation there will
be darkness, and thus, my friends, you can be assured that will bring days
similar to the so-called Ice Age in the Great tribulation. There will be
hailstones weighing around 200 pounds each!- DLG See Amos 5 and 8.
Amos 7.7 The Plumbline. Each time the Lord (kurious,
JHWH) measures something in the Bible, a great occurrence is about to happen!
See Revelation 21.16. and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and
maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and
poureth them out upon the face of the earth: the Lord is his name
Several prophets say the
Day of the Lord (kurious, JHWH) will be a day of darkness when the sun will not
shine in its full strength, thus the moon will be darkened, and the stars will "withdraw" their
shining. The result will bring gloominess or depression.
Consider this magnificent
passage in Isaiah 40. 9. O Zion, that
bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that
bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not
afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! 10.
Behold, the Lord God will come
with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with
him, and his work before him. 11. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he
shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall
gently lead those that are with young.
12. Who hath measured the waters
in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended
the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and
the hills in a balance?
Amos 9. AΩ 5.
And the Lord GOD (Elohim) of
hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell
therein shall mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
2 Peter 3. 11.
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of
persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12.
Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the
heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat?
Amos 9 closes with the
regathering and planting of Israel in their own land forever!
Each reference to the
Lord of Hosts, JHWH of Armies, is
annotated with the Alpha-Omega sign to
draw our attention to the Lord of Lords
and King of Kings, Jesus Christ, whom the prophet Zechariah in particular
identified as the Lord of Hosts,[59] the
Lord their God[60], the
One who stretched out the Heavens[61]. He was
the Smitten one, was sold for thirty pieces of silver, rode into Jerusalem on a
donkey one day[62],

which shall devour the palaces thereof.
AΩ 11. Thus saith
